VA VLER (Virtual Life Electronic Record)

By seamlessly integrating VA, DoD and private healthcare provider data, VLER will enhance the quality and continuity of veterans’ care by ensuring that no veteran has a delay in service as a result of the transition from active duty to veteran status. The objective is to provide a single, coherent, virtual, lifetime electronic record using a data-centric common services approach based on national standards. In this regard, VLER will provide for the exchange of health, benefits and personnel data within a secure, reliable and timely framework that safeguards the patient’s personally identifiable information (PII) pursuant to HIPAA, NIST and FIPS standards.
